Their dinner was delightful, until they both hit a taboo the other had no clue to look out for. Buffy's back story is being peppered in. I'm enjoying learning more about both their back stories. More handyman projects together is going to be fun, and I'm looking forward to Giles joining the cast.

Their first tentative steps toward friendship are believable and delightful. I love the image of the two of them on a do it yourself project. It's just so domestic and normal.

The setting is calming, but Faith and Wood trying to push a friendship seems a bit sinister. I loved this gorgeous phrase: "Listening quietly to the incoming surf breaking heavily against the rocks, he realized part of what he'd been missing. He needed to start actually looking and listening to things that were bigger than he was again. The solitude and the ocean could offer him solace and hopefully the chance to learn how to really heal." Lovely.

Lovely description of the setting, and I enjoyed both women ogling the new guest and the guest doing some ogling of his own. This is charming.

Excellent set up to this already entertaining piece. Spike's downward spiral was vividly portrayed in the flashbacks. Casting him as an alcoholic writer and Lilah as his agent is loaded with possibilities. Buffy being Spike's landlord is also going to be fun. I like that you have her and Dawn doing minor repairs. That's just what struggling inn keepers would have to do to keep things running smoothly. Good start.
